Military elements and civilians are harmed in wars in the world. Countries increase their investments in the Defense Industry and continue to develop high speed and destructive ammunition systems. Nowadays, in parallel with the development of threats, it is important to provide effective protection. In this thesis, the dynamic behavior of a ultra high strength concrete under high speed and energetic dynamic effects such as ammunition impact will be studied experimentally and numerically. A ultra-high strength concrete (UHSC) having 135 MPa compressive strength and and higher durability compared to normal concretes was produced. In order to simulate the dynamic behaviour of this concerete numarically on a computer a number of experimentally produced material parameters are required . to generate such data the samples produced from this concrete were tested by reaching strain rates of 353 to 1288 s-1 in a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) test rig . In addition, 500x500x500 mm target samples were produced to be used in ballistic tests and the tungsten heavy alloy specimen was impacted to the UHSC target structure in the velocity range of approximately 795-934 m/s. Simulation of experimental studies and data obtained from quasi-static and SHPB tests for numerical studies were evaluated by multivariate regression analysis in Matlab program and parameters of the Holmquist Johnson Cook (HJC) material model were determined.
A series of numerical analyis was carried out using the Holmquist Johnson Cook (HJC) material model of the developed ultra-high strength concrete, and the penetration and crater depth, damage surface area, hole diameter measurements and images of the target and the striking part of the final target obtained in the impact tests were compared with the numerical analysis results. Hence , the numerical model has been verified.
The ultra-high strength concrete produced uniquely in this thesis will contribute to the literature by using it in order to reduce the effectiveness, minimize the damage and protect the buildings against the ammunition systems that provide high damage and at supersonic speeds.
